About Florida Reflections

In addition to local programming, Sarasota County Libraries is partnering with Florida Humanities to present the Florida Reflections series, part of By the People: Conversations Beyond 250, a national initiative created in collaboration with local humanities organizations and community partners. The initiative explores Florida’s contributions to the American experience while encouraging civic engagement and cultural understanding. Funding for the Florida Reflections program is provided in part through the Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Charitable Foundation, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Community Foundation for Brevard.

Florida Reflections explores Florida’s unique place in the American story through thought-provoking programs led by historians, scholars, artists and civic leaders. Topics include overlooked Revolutionary histories, democracy in Florida, Indigenous knowledge, cultural traditions and the many voices that continue to shape our communities today.
