What can you do with a library card?

Library cards are available for free to all Sarasota County residents.
You can visit any of our library branches to apply for a library card. Remember to bring along your identification (ID) and proof of residency in Sarasota County.
Do you live outside Sarasota County?
If you live in a county that participates in the Tampa Bay Library Consortium (TBLC) Reciprocal Borrowing Program (including Manatee County) or you live in Charlotte County, you may qualify to borrow physical materials as a reciprocal borrower from Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources without purchasing a non-resident card.
- Borrow physical materials only: As an eligible reciprocal borrower, visit a Sarasota County library with your home library card and a valid photo ID showing proof of residency in your home county. Reciprocal borrowing privileges apply to physical materials only.
- Obtain a Sarasota County non-resident library card: Complete the Non-Resident Card Application to access physical materials and digital library resources. Additional information, including fees and eligibility requirements, is available on the application page.
